Cape Cod, I love you

and I miss you. This heat is really making me miss the beautiful Northeast weather. We had a great time in Cape Cod. It was the girls first time to fly and it actually went really well, besides a few bumps in the road in the beginning. The morning of the trip to fly out for Boston we overslept and awoke only 20 minutes before our cab arrived. We got to the airport in time and then juggled our way through hoops in security with two girls, three bags, carseats and a stroller. The real worry was how the girls were going to adjust to flying.  Caroline, whom I was carrying, began to scream right as I stepped onto the plane. You should have seen the looks from people as we walked to our seats. I was a bit frantic but Andrew was totally calm. His reaction was, "Oh well, we won't ever see these people again." Very true but I still couldn't relax. I started feeding her and she calmed right down. But just as the plane was taking off, she had an explosion.. I picked the perfect day to wear white pants. Poop was up Caroline's back, up her front, down her legs...you would have thought she was not wearing a diaper at all! I looked at Andrew and asked him what were we thinking!   Things eventually settled out over the layover in Dallas and remaining flight. The flights home went really well, no crying babies at all!

This is how we rolled into Chatham...Caroline had pooped through all of her extra outfits so she was naked.

We stayed in Chatham on the Cape. It was wonderful. It is about an hour and a half drive from Boston...well worth it though. It's a quintessential New England beach town....very small, quaint, casual. I was surprised at how well the girls did. We were able to keep them on their schedule for the most part. I think it helped that we rented a house and were not staying in a hotel. Andrew's parents drove down from their home in Vermont and met us. I'll let the pictures show how beautiful it is...

Of course Caroline pooped on her bathing suit right when we got to the beach.

The water there is cold, around 60 to 65 degrees. Being from Texas, that was way too cold for us. But the weather was so beautiful, anywhere from 75 to 85 degrees during the day with a nice coastal breeze that you never got too hot. At night it would get down to around 68-70.

The town at the very tip end of the Cape is Provincetown. It was about 20 miles from us but an hour drive since you go through so many little towns along the way. We drove up there one day when Andrew's parent's friends from Vermont came down to stay for a couple of days. We stopped at this beautiful little restaurant on the water for lunch. Here was the view..

Provincetown was quite different than I expected. We thought it would be this tiny, less traveled town since it is so far to get to. Well, we were wrong. It ended up being this very crowded, popular, eclectic and quite a gay community town..

It rained two nights while we were there. We slept with the windows opened and listened to the rain.

Only we would make salsa and take it to the beach!

The last full day we were there a cold front moved in and it never got above 68 degrees. It was wonderful. I wouldn't have cared if it had snowed! We bundled the girls up and sat outside on the patio of the Chatham Bars Inn for drinks.

I know it's funny to say but I do think the girls enjoyed the trip. Probably because they love to be outside and since the weather was so nice, we were outside most of the trip.

Cape Cod, I will be back next year to visit you.
